Ghostwriting

Has a storyline bounced around your mind so often that you feel like you’ve already watched the movie? Have you encountered an experience that will excite, inspire, inform, or entertain readers…but you don’t know where to begin? You may be harboring a fictional tale, or a harrowing or thrilling piece of your life story.

Or maybe you’re a consultant, business leader, or speaker wanting to differentiate yourself from others in the industry, but you don’t know how to pinpoint and organize your best ideas.

You may have a great idea, but lack the time, skills, or knowledge to create your book into something that will captivate and sell.

Or you may simply desire the support that ghostwriting offers—helping you navigate content and craft it into its best form.

If you find yourself in any of these situations, you may benefit from ghostwriting. You don’t need to be a celebrity or politician to use a ghostwriter. While we at Spiritus Books have written for those in the spotlight, many of our authors came to us from the shadows.

Our ghostwriting process is highly personalized. Through a series of interviews, we will dig deeply to capture your knowledge (experiences, ideas, stories). Then we will create a proposed outline and sample chapter, and upon your approval, we will write a chapter at a time. Our goal is to reflect your voice while finding the most compelling arc or outline for your book. When the book is completely written, we will edit it for you. We guarantee that you will be satisfied with the end result.

Ghostwriter Scott Carbonara has served as a crisis counselor and executive chief-of-staff of a billion-dollar organization, so there is no story or concept that is out of reach to him. With great empathy, vision, and creativity, he takes each author on an experience—helping them map out the absolute best book imaginable. Developmental Editor and Writer Jocelyn Carbonara works closely on each project to ensure continuity and clarity.

How do I know if I need an editor, a ghostwriter, or an author coach?

Great question! It can be hard to know what sort of help you’ll need, especially if this is your first book. Generally speaking, we suggest:

An editor can help if you’ve completed the first draft of your book. After you’ve done as much self-editing as possible, a professional editor can bring your manuscript to the next level.

A ghostwriter can help if you lack the time, writing ability, or motivation to produce the book in your head, or if you simply prefer to work with a professional writer who will create the best version of your story or idea.

An author coach can help if you would like on-call guidance while developing your book. We can guide you in writing and editing, proposal crafting, or other publishing questions.

I’ve had a story to tell for years, but I’m not a writer. Hiring Scott was the best decision I made to get my book done. Through interviews, Scott asked questions I hadn’t even thought about. The book he wrote blew me away. It was my story, in my voice. But it was even better. He was able to deal with my painful story and make it something I’m proud to share. He created a story arc that made me want to read it. If you want your story told right, by someone who cares enough to bring out the best, hire Scott.
— Randy Grimes, former NFL player, and author, “Off Center”
I’ve never been able to write, so I knew I needed someone to write my book. As a busy consultant, I also didn’t have time to figure out how to make it happen. Scott made it easy. He sat with me for in-depth interviews. The story he came up completely outdid any expectations I had. He’s gifted at getting my voice. He made it a page-turner that people don’t want to put down. I can’t tell you how many people have told me it changed their lives, and an added bonus was, it was so well written. It’s opened doors for me to speak and help people around the country. I can’t recommend Scott enough if you want someone who will tell your story like it is and even advise on the publishing process.
— Tim Ryan, TV star of A&E's “Dope Man,” and author, “From Dope to Hope”
Scott was absolutely incredible to work with. He took my story and made it come to life! Each chapter was a page turner, and it left me wanting more, even though it was my own story. He is compassionate, flexible, and his drive to take your story to the next level is unmatched! I would hire again without thinking twice. This 5-star rating is simply not enough to represent how amazing his work his. If you’re looking for a writer, do not look any further.
— Jakia L., memoir author
I don’t know if there’s a word for it, but I have the opposite of ‘buyer’s remorse.’ I don’t know what we would have done had we not found you. I couldn’t be happier with our decision to have you write this book.
— A corporate client, after working unsuccessfully with another ghostwriter for six months
